Dear Visitor,
|
June/July 2007 |
General News - The rainy season is gone, and our days are around 100º, with lower humidity, 80-90%. The nights are cool, around 85º, so we enjoy them more than the days.
Family - Nathaniel is in training in San Diego, and seems to be doing well. He will graduate (if he finishes) on August 24th, and then advanced training in December.
Philip is here for the summer, and working on some projects. On one of these, my hand slipped and I cut both index and middle finger on the table planer. The index finger lost some bone and broke, so I am in a cast. This is very difficult for me, since it's my right hand, and I am not left -handed, but I am learning to write again and use my left hand.
Diana is preparring to go for Nathaniel's graduation, so she is busy catching up on her work, and making arrangements for her month of absence.
Church Work - We have been having visitors come almost all services at Bela Vista. Our number on Sunday night has grown to over 50, and in Sunday School to around 45. Pastor Jose Orlaim and Marlene are faithfully working with the young people and children in the suburb, and seeing good results.
Bible Institutes - Two graduates finished at Inyenga Opakawa in São Gabriel. A third student who was to finish was not able to come. There has been a lot of violence along the border region with the guerillas from Colombia. Our missionaries there in that area are working with the Baniwa, Tukano and Kiupako tribes, building churchs, Bible institues, and preaching the Gospel. They are doing a job only then can do. Please pray for their safety as they navigate dangerous rapids and put themselves in harms way with the Colombian factions. Two months ago, Alberto, was headed down riverin his canoe, with his family, and was swamped by the waves at "Urupari Cathoeira" (Devil's Rapids) and thy the grace of God, even his little baby survived the ordeal, and there was no loss of life. they lost all their manioc flour they had made to bring into town to sell, and all their clothes and kitchen stuff. This family has labored years faithfully, traveling days through rapids and facing other dangers. We are very proud of these families who accompany our men, risking their lives to take the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Prayer - Thank you for praying for me. I attribute the quick healing process to our Lord through your prayers. Remember Barcelos, and the problem there, along with the new works in Beruri, Anori, and Presidente Figueiredo.
Thank you!
True and Diana Hawkins
